Program Materials

These materials are all black and white with no picture clues.  The child needs to develop the habit of focusing on print, not searching for picture clues.

    This Program Inlcudes:

  • A two hour Instructional Video explaining and demonstrating the reading process through first grade. On the video, Lois explains each of the five areas. Each area is then followed up with her granddaughters demonstrating that area. This video was developed from 40 hours of home videotaping done over the course of nine months. This shows a four and a half year old girl learning to read and write simple sentences and beginning with no prior knowledge or interest in letters. Only these techniques and materials were used. The video will also show a six year old demonstrating the reading process through first grade.
  • An easy-to-follow Instruction Booklet. The booklet and video go hand in hand and are the instruction for this program.
  • Writing Tablet
  • 100 phonetic cards
  • Blending Box
  • The File Box has 300 cards, 39 of them are label (instruction) cards. Each label card has easy-to-follow directions on what to do with the cards behind it.

Each card represents a new sound or phonetic skill. There are over 1200 sentences for the child to read and write from dictation. There is no isolating or flashcarding of words. All phonetic skills are taught in the context of sentences. The file box is approached with the idea that we are looking for what the child does not know and, therefore, you do not instruct until the child comes to something he does not know. You have his attention and that is the time to instruct. The file box will challenge your child without bombarding him with so many new ideas that he becomes frustrated.
